Question: The canon g10 or g11? (Posted by: Tom on 2009-10-23 21:15:11) I'm planning to get a new camera because my last camera is already outdated for almost 6 years and I'm having trouble with deciding to either go for the G10 or G11. Ive read many reviews and i'm still not sure which to go for. Can anybody give me the pro's and con's between these camera's and your own opinion which would you go for? Also wanting to know the difference with the Canon G10's 14.7 MP between the Canon G11's 10MP |

Posted by: 타오리 on 2009-10-23, 22:12:37 I would suggest that you save some money and get the G10. Other than the screen and the megapixels, I don't see any major differences. They're very similar, and although the G11 is newer, I would personally spend less money and go for the G10. |

Posted by: thankyoumaskedman on 2009-10-23, 23:57:59 The G10 is very good, but the G11 is probably better. I have a G10. I haven't tried the G11, but I somewhat regret not having waited for it. The 14.7 MP is empty magnification. I normally shoot with the G10 set to 9 MP, because there is very little extra detail that is brought up at 14.7 MP. 14.7 MP looks bigger and softer viewed at 100%. The 10 MP sensor should have less noise. The 14.7 MP applies noise reduction to be "noise free" at ISO 80, and low contrast detail like foliage looks mushy because of it. Shooting RAW and converting to uncompressed .jpg with noise reduction set to zero in the software, it is possible to see a bit more detail, but there is also a little bit of the graininess that the out-of-camera .jpg's try to hide. |

Posted by: masticina on 2009-10-24, 15:54:43 I would go with the G11, because this indeed solves one of the big issues the G10 had. It had to small pixels..it wasn't able to resolve the incoming light. To many photosensitive sites, so small to.. The G11 isn't perfect but to be fair at 10Megapixel it is in the safe range where this quality loss is minimized. In the price range this camera is.. you pretty much also reach the point of a DSLR. And then the gains of an Actual big sensor DSLR is strong. But I see use for smaller cameras and the G11 is very good indeed. |

Posted by: beeboppinbippity on 2009-10-27, 16:04:40 I have owned a canon G10 for about 3 months and I am planning on selling it this weekend. I think the G11 is better considering there are 30% fewer pixels on that already noisy, tiny image sensor. I have noisy shots that were taken in sunlight using the G10 on ISO 80... 14.7 mp is just too much for the sensor size. Plus, the articulating screen on the G11 means you can turn the screen around to prevent scratching the screen if the camera is in your pocket. I don't see what is so good about the G10's higher resolution, all you get is a larger, uglier picture because of the noise. It says a lot that canon released the g11 so soon after the G10. usually they would milk the sales for at least a year before upgrading models.. They finally realized that quality is better than quantity and backed the image size to a G7's resolution |
